These counts and lists are worked out from the library itself each time the page loads. A score rates how much weight a study can bear — its design, journal, evidence and recency — not whether its result is good news. How we score a study. Diagnostic Accuracy of a Plasma Phosphorylated Tau 217 Immunoassay for Alzheimer Disease Pathology
A commercially available plasma p-tau217 immunoassay accurately identified biological Alzheimer's disease, comparable to cerebrospinal fluid biomarkers, with reproducible cut-offs across cohorts. Using a three-range reference reduced confirmatory testing by about 80%, which could make diagnosis less invasive and more accessible.

Prevalence of amyloid PET positivity in dementia syndromes: a meta-analysis
Amyloid plaques also occur in other dementias, so this meta-analysis pooled individual data on 1,359 people clinically diagnosed with Alzheimer's dementia and 538 with other dementias, and found that a positive amyloid PET scan was associated with diagnosis, age and APOE ε4 status. In Alzheimer's dementia the estimated share with a positive scan fell from 86% at age 50 to 68% at 90 in APOE ε4 non-carriers, and from 97% to 90% in carriers. The authors see potential use in telling dementias apart in early-onset cases and in supporting an Alzheimer's diagnosis in non-carriers over 70; the study is about diagnosis, not treatment.

Association of Donanemab Treatment With Exploratory Plasma Biomarkers in Early Symptomatic Alzheimer Disease: A Secondary Analysis of the TRAILBLAZER-ALZ Randomized Clinical Trial
In this exploratory secondary analysis of the TRAILBLAZER-ALZ randomized trial, which randomized 272 people with early symptomatic Alzheimer disease, blood levels of pTau217 and glial fibrillary acidic protein were significantly lower with donanemab than with placebo "as early as 12 weeks after the start of treatment", and those changes were correlated with the percent change in amyloid. Blood amyloid-β 42/40 and neurofilament light chain showed "no significant differences" between arms at the end of treatment. This record reports blood-marker changes only: it does not say whether memory or daily function changed, and it is not evidence that the treatment cures or prevents Alzheimer's disease.

CSF and blood biomarkers for the diagnosis of Alzheimer's disease: a systematic review and meta-analysis
This systematic review found that core CSF biomarkers and plasma total tau were strongly associated with Alzheimer's disease, while plasma Aβ42 and Aβ40 were not. It is about diagnosis, not treating, curing or preventing the disease.

A comprehensive head-to-head comparison of key plasma phosphorylated tau 217 biomarker tests
In a head-to-head comparison, the mass spectrometry-based %p-tau217WashU test performed significantly better than all immunoassays at identifying amyloid-PET, tau-PET, and cognitive abnormalities. The authors suggest %p-tau217 could serve as a stand-alone confirmatory test, while some immunoassays may be better suited as triage tests needing a second confirmation.

Plasma p-tau217 and tau-PET predict future cognitive decline among cognitively unimpaired individuals: implications for clinical trials
Plasma p-tau217 and tau-PET performed similarly in predicting future cognitive decline among cognitively unimpaired individuals, and combining them was slightly better than either alone. Using plasma p-tau217 first and then tau-PET reduced the number of participants needed for a clinical trial by 94%, which could make preclinical Alzheimer's trials more efficient.

Changes in Alzheimer Disease Blood Biomarkers and Associations With Incident All-Cause Dementia
In community-dwelling adults, midlife hypertension and diabetes were associated with faster increases in NfL and GFAP, while only Alzheimer's-specific biomarkers in midlife showed long-term associations with late-life dementia. All plasma biomarkers measured in late life were associated with late-life dementia, with NfL showing the largest association.

Prediction of Longitudinal Cognitive Decline in Preclinical Alzheimer Disease Using Plasma Biomarkers
This study followed people from two research cohorts, BioFINDER-1 and WRAP, who had amyloid in the brain but were described as cognitively unimpaired: 171 people in the main analyses. It asked whether blood markers predict later memory and thinking decline at this "preclinical" stage. The authors conclude that the blood test plasma P-tau217 "may be used as a complement to CSF or PET" when choosing participants for trials of new disease-modifying treatments. That is a finding about trial recruitment, not about a treatment, and our record does not include the figures showing how well the test predicted decline.
