These counts and lists are worked out from the library itself each time the page loads. A score rates how much weight a study can bear — its design, journal, evidence and recency — not whether its result is good news. How we score a study. The 20 highest-scoring studies

  1. Effectiveness of Implementing a Collaborative Chronic Care Model for Clinician Teams on Patient Outcomes and Health Status in Mental Health: A Randomized Clinical Trial JAMA network open · 2019-03-01 · · Peer-reviewed
  2. Effects of Resistance Exercise Training on Cognitive Function and Physical Performance in Cognitive Frailty: A Randomized Controlled Trial The journal of nutrition, health & aging · 2018-01-01 · · Peer-reviewed
  3. Representation of patients with dementia in clinical trials of donepezil The Canadian journal of clinical pharmacology = Journal canadien de pharmacologie clinique · 2004-12-15 · · Peer-reviewed
  4. A cerebrospinal fluid synaptic protein biomarker for prediction of cognitive resilience versus decline in Alzheimer's disease Nature medicine · 2025-03-31 · · Peer-reviewed

Using cerebrospinal fluid proteomics in 3,397 individuals, the ratio YWHAG:NPTX2 explained variance in cognitive impairment beyond amyloid-beta and tau measures and predicted conversion from cognitively normal to mild cognitive impairment and from mild cognitive impairment to dementia. It is described as a prognostic biomarker, not a treatment, cure, or prevention.

  5. A multilayer multimodal detection and prediction model based on explainable artificial intelligence for Alzheimer's disease Scientific reports · 2021-01-29 · · Peer-reviewed

The text only notes that physicians struggle to interpret these models and find it hard to trust them. No information is given about whether the model improves diagnosis, treatment, or prevention of Alzheimer's disease.

  6. Statin therapy and risk of Alzheimer's and age-related neurodegenerative diseases Alzheimer's & dementia (New York, N. Y.) · 2020-11-25 · · Peer-reviewed
  7. Patients with chronic kidney disease are at an elevated risk of dementia: a population-based cohort study in Taiwan BMC nephrology · 2012-09-29 · · Peer-reviewed
  8. Cognitive stimulation to improve cognitive functioning in people with dementia The Cochrane database of systematic reviews · 2023-01-31 · · Peer-reviewed

Cognitive stimulation showed moderate-quality evidence for a small benefit in cognition and slight improvements in quality of life, communication, and social interaction in people with dementia. This is a non-drug intervention that may help with symptoms but does not cure or prevent Alzheimer's disease.

  9. Balance and strength training in older adults: intervention gains and Tai Chi maintenance Journal of the American Geriatrics Society · 1996-05-01 · · Peer-reviewed
  10. Deep Learning in Alzheimer's Disease: Diagnostic Classification and Prognostic Prediction Using Neuroimaging Data Frontiers in aging neuroscience · 2019-08-20 · · Peer-reviewed
  11. Interpreting artificial intelligence models: a systematic review on the application of LIME and SHAP in Alzheimer's disease detection Brain informatics · 2024-04-05 · · Peer-reviewed
  12. Hearing Impairment Affects Dementia Incidence. An Analysis Based on Longitudinal Health Claims Data in Germany PloS one · 2016-07-08 · · Peer-reviewed
  13. Do We Need to Rethink the Epidemiology and Healthcare Utilization of Parkinson's Disease in Germany? Frontiers in neurology · 2018-06-29 · · Peer-reviewed
  14. Gait variability in people with neurological disorders: A systematic review and meta-analysis Human movement science · 2016-03-26 · · Peer-reviewed
  15. AI-based differential diagnosis of dementia etiologies on multimodal data Nature medicine · 2024-07-04 · · Peer-reviewed

An AI model using demographics, medical history, neuropsychological assessments, and multimodal neuroimaging across 51,269 participants identified 10 dementia etiologies, with a microaveraged AUROC of 0.96 for differentiating etiologies. This is a diagnostic tool, not a treatment, cure, or prevention for Alzheimer's disease.

  16. Artificial intelligence for diagnostic and prognostic neuroimaging in dementia: A systematic review Alzheimer's & dementia : the journal of the Alzheimer's Association · 2023-08-10 · · Peer-reviewed

This review of 255 studies on AI and brain imaging for dementia found that most (71%) relied on a single research dataset (ADNI) and that few tested their models on an independent group of patients. Discriminative models performed best at telling Alzheimer's disease apart from healthy controls, but accuracy varied with the patients, scan types and methods used. The authors call for clearer reporting and independent validation before these tools reach practice. The review concerns diagnosis and prognosis only, not treatment or prevention.

  17. Diagnostic power of resting-state fMRI for detection of network connectivity in Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment: A systematic review Human brain mapping · 2021-05-04 · · Peer-reviewed
  18. Machine Learning and Novel Biomarkers for the Diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease International journal of molecular sciences · 2021-03-09 · · Peer-reviewed
