  1. Assessment of Reported Comparative Effectiveness and Safety of Atypical Antipsychotics in the Treatment of Behavioral and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia: A Network Meta-analysis JAMA network open · 2019-03-01 · · Peer-reviewed
  2. Effectiveness of Implementing a Collaborative Chronic Care Model for Clinician Teams on Patient Outcomes and Health Status in Mental Health: A Randomized Clinical Trial JAMA network open · 2019-03-01 · · Peer-reviewed
  3. Comparative Effectiveness of Behavioral Interventions on Quality of Life for Older Adults With Mild Cognitive Impairment: A Randomized Clinical Trial JAMA network open · 2019-05-03 · · Peer-reviewed
  4. Effects of Exercise Alone or Combined With Cognitive Training and Vitamin D Supplementation to Improve Cognition in Adults With Mild Cognitive Impairment: A Randomized Clinical Trial JAMA network open · 2023-07-03 · · Peer-reviewed
  5. Assessment of Plasma Amyloid-β42/40 and Cognitive Decline Among Community-Dwelling Older Adults JAMA network open · 2020-12-01 · · Peer-reviewed
  6. Physical Activity and Cognitive Decline Among Older Adults: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis JAMA Network Open · 2024-02-05 · · Peer-reviewed

This meta-analysis of 104 studies found that physical activity was associated with better late-life cognition, but the association was weak, and there was no significant association in follow-ups longer than 10 years. The findings do not show that physical activity prevents cognitive decline.

  7. Sleep Architecture, Obstructive Sleep Apnea, and Cognitive Function in Adults JAMA network open · 2023-07-03 · · Peer-reviewed

This consortium study investigated how sleep architecture and obstructive sleep apnea relate to cognitive function across five population-based cohorts. It examines associations with cognition but does not test whether treating sleep problems prevents dementia.

  8. Association of Alzheimer Disease With Life Expectancy in People With Down Syndrome JAMA network open · 2022-05-02 · · Peer-reviewed

In this meta-analysis of people with Down syndrome, Alzheimer disease began at an estimated 53.8 years on average and death followed at about 58.4 years, roughly 4.6 years after onset. US death records showed the typical age at death rising from 1 year in 1968 to 57 in 2019, but the oldest deaths (90th percentile) barely moved, from 63 to 65 years. The authors say this ceiling and the consistent age at onset are "compatible with fully penetrant Alzheimer disease". The study describes the course of the disease and does not test any treatment or prevention.

  9. Association of Dual Decline in Cognition and Gait Speed With Risk of Dementia in Older Adults JAMA network open · 2022-05-02 · · Peer-reviewed

Older adults who declined in both gait speed and cognition had a much higher risk of later dementia than those who did not decline. The authors say gait speed should be included in dementia risk screening, but this is about predicting risk, not treating, curing, or preventing dementia.

  10. Exposure to Air Pollutants and Lewy Body and Parkinson Disease-Related Dementias JAMA network open · 2026-05-01 · · Peer-reviewed
  11. Variation in Population Attributable Fraction of Dementia Associated With Potentially Modifiable Risk Factors by Race and Ethnicity in the US JAMA network open · 2022-07-01 · · Peer-reviewed

This analysis estimated that 41.0% of dementia cases among all US adults were attributable to 12 risk factors, with a large fraction associated with potentially modifiable risk factors especially for Black and Hispanic individuals. This estimates how much dementia burden is linked to modifiable risk factors and does not show that modifying them prevents dementia.

  12. Sex Differences in Apolipoprotein E and Alzheimer Disease Pathology Across Ancestries JAMA network open · 2025-03-03 · · Peer-reviewed

This meta-analysis examined how the APOE gene, sex and ancestry relate to three core CSF Alzheimer's biomarkers. It is about understanding risk and biomarker patterns across groups, not about treating or preventing Alzheimer's.

  13. Association of Mediterranean Diet With Cognitive Decline Among Diverse Hispanic or Latino Adults From the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos JAMA network open · 2022-07-01 · · Peer-reviewed
  14. Reliability and Validity of Smartphone Cognitive Testing for Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration JAMA network open · 2024-04-01 · · Peer-reviewed
  15. Prevalence of Concurrent Functional Vision and Hearing Impairment and Association With Dementia in Community-Dwelling Medicare Beneficiaries JAMA network open · 2021-03-01 · · Peer-reviewed
  16. Sex Differences in Cognitive Decline Among US Adults JAMA network open · 2021-02-01 · · Peer-reviewed

This pooled analysis found that women had higher baseline cognitive performance but faster cognitive decline than men. It concerns sex differences in cognitive decline and does not test any treatment, cure or prevention for Alzheimer's disease.

  17. Pharmacologic Treatments for Dementia and the Risk of Developing Age-Related Macular Degeneration JAMA network open · 2024-10-01 · · Peer-reviewed
  18. Comparison of Palliative Care Delivery in the Last Year of Life Between Adults With Terminal Noncancer Illness or Cancer JAMA network open · 2021-03-01 · · Peer-reviewed
  19. Association of Hearing Loss With Dementia JAMA network open · 2019-07-03 · · Peer-reviewed
  20. Changes in Alcohol Consumption and Risk of Dementia in a Nationwide Cohort in South Korea JAMA Network Open · 2023-02-01 · · Peer-reviewed

This South Korean cohort found that sustained mild or moderate drinking was linked to lower dementia risk, while sustained heavy drinking was linked to higher risk. It is observational, so it cannot prove that drinking protects against or causes dementia.
