Multidomain intervention for preventiing cognitive decline among older adults with mild cognitive impairment ‐ Interim results from TINAGE trial
Saritha Susan Vargese, Pramod Thomas, Thomas Mathew, Deepak Varughese Thomas. Alzheimer s & Dementia, 2025-12-01
Topic: Risk, prevention and care in population studies
During the one-year follow-up, the intervention group showed a significant increase in mean cognitive scores (Addenbrooke's cognitive examination), rising from 73.94 to 82.32 (p < 0.001). The control group also demonstrated a modest but statistically significant improvement, with scores increasing from 72.28 to 74.21 (p < 0.001). Notably, there was a significant difference between the intervention and control groups at the end of the one-year follow-up. The interim results are promising and if found to be effective could be integrated to primary health care in similar settings.
Key findings
- During the one-year follow-up, the intervention group showed a significant increase in mean cognitive scores (Addenbrooke's cognitive examination), rising from 73.94 to 82.32 (p < 0.001).
- The control group also demonstrated a modest but statistically significant improvement, with scores increasing from 72.28 to 74.21 (p < 0.001).
- Notably, there was a significant difference between the intervention and control groups at the end of the one-year follow-up.
- The interim results are promising and if found to be effective could be integrated to primary health care in similar settings.
Why it matters
In these interim results, the multidomain intervention group's mean cognitive scores rose significantly over one year, and the control group also improved modestly, with a significant difference between groups at the end of follow-up. The authors call these interim results promising and say the intervention could be integrated into primary health care if found effective, but this is not yet a confirmed treatment or cure.

How this study scored 30/100
Published in a peer-reviewed journal. Scored zero for study design, sample size, effect reported, studied in people and randomised / blinded because the record does not state it. We have no data on senior author's track record and institution's track record, so those were left out: it earned 28 of the 93 points we could judge it on, which is 30 out of 100.
