✓ Peer-reviewed alzhub usefulness score 43 out of 100. TREM2 and immune genetics

Topic: Brain proteins, microglia and lab models

Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 2 (TREM2) serves as an anti-inflammatory receptor, negatively regulating the innate immune response. TREM2 is mainly expressed on dendritic cells and macrophages, the target cells of porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV). Thus, we investigated the potential role of TREM2 in PRRSV infection in porcine alveolar macrophages (PAMs).

Key findings

Why it matters

In pig cells, TREM2 acted as an anti-inflammatory receptor and its presence helped a virus called PRRSV replicate, while silencing TREM2 restrained the virus. This is infectious disease research in animals and does not directly inform Alzheimer's treatment, cure or prevention.
