Topic: Risk, prevention and care in population studies

Abstract E-commerce continues its expansion, and most retail groups have opened online distribution channels in the French grocery market. Using purchasing data, I develop a store choice model and a supply model to estimate the effect of the online distribution channel on consumer welfare and retail competition. E-commerce leads to a very small decrease in consumer surplus. Furthermore, only online leaders obtain more market shares and profits while the majority globally get lower market shares and profits with e-commerce.

Key findings

Why it matters

This study models how e-commerce affects grocery store choice and retail competition, not Alzheimer's disease, so it provides no information on treating, curing or preventing Alzheimer's. It found e-commerce led to a very small decrease in consumer surplus.

Published in a peer-reviewed journal. Scored zero for study design, sample size, effect reported, studied in people and randomised / blinded because the record does not state it. We have no data on journal's citation record, impact for its field and year and senior author's track record, so those were left out: it earned 22 of the 86 points we could judge it on, which is 26 out of 100.
