Correlations between plasma and PET beta-amyloid levels in individuals with subjective cognitive decline: the Fundació ACE Healthy Brain Initiative (FACEHBI)
de Rojas I, Romero J, Rodríguez-Gomez O, Pesini P, Sanabria A, Pérez-Cordon A, Abdelnour C, Hernández I et al.. Alzheimer's research & therapy, 2018-11-29
Topic: Amyloid, tau and blood-test diagnosis
To facilitate clinical trials of disease-modifying therapies, plasma concentrations of Aβ species are good candidates for peripheral AD biomarkers, but studies to date have generated conflicting results. Results FBB-PET global SUVR correlated weakly but significantly with Aβ42/40 plasma ratios. The ROC curve demonstrated that plasma Aβ measurements are not superior to APOE and age in combination in predicting brain amyloidosis. No significant dependency was observed between APOE genotype and plasma Aβ measurements (p value for interaction = 0.105). Independent replication of these findings is warranted.

Key findings
- To facilitate clinical trials of disease-modifying therapies, plasma concentrations of Aβ species are good candidates for peripheral AD biomarkers, but studies to date have generated conflicting results.
- Results FBB-PET global SUVR correlated weakly but significantly with Aβ42/40 plasma ratios.
- The ROC curve demonstrated that plasma Aβ measurements are not superior to APOE and age in combination in predicting brain amyloidosis.
- No significant dependency was observed between APOE genotype and plasma Aβ measurements (p value for interaction = 0.105).
- Independent replication of these findings is warranted.

How this study scored 53/100
Published in a peer-reviewed journal. Scored zero for study design and randomised / blinded because the record does not state it. We have no data on journal's citation record, times cited, citations per year, impact for its field and year, cited by studies here, still being cited, senior author's track record, institution's track record and multi-centre collaboration, so those were left out: it earned 31 of the 58 points we could judge it on, which is 53 out of 100.
