We compared the clinical and analytical performance of Alzheimer's disease (AD) plasma biomarkers measured using the single-molecule array (Simoa) and Lumipulse platforms.
-
Serum C5a level increased with AD severity, and its expression was positively correlated with serum pro-inflammatory factor levels, and negatively correlated with cognitive function.
-
Plasma Aβ40, Aβ42, and P-Tau proteins in the NC, aMCI, and AD groups increased with the progression of AD ( P < 0.01); cortical thickness reductions in the AD-aMCI groups and AD-NC groups mainly involved the bilateral superior temporal gyrus, transverse temporal gyrus, superior marginal gyrus, insula, right entorhinal cortex, right fusiform gyrus, and cingulate gyrus.
-
Recent studies show that fibrinogen plays a role in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease (AD), which may be crucial to neurovascular damage and cognitive impairment.
-
Serum levels also correlated strongly with CSF levels for Simoa-based measurements (both ϱ = 0.62).
-
To facilitate clinical trials of disease-modifying therapies, plasma concentrations of Aβ species are good candidates for peripheral AD biomarkers, but studies to date have generated conflicting results.

Regional in vivo 18 F-THK5351 retention was significantly correlated with the density of tau aggregates in the neocortex and monoamine oxidase-B in the whole brain, but not correlated with that of insoluble amyloid-β.
-
Based on the hypothesis that tau is cleaved proteolytically and then released into the blood, we here provide evidence for the presence of an ADAM10-generated tau fragment (Tau-A) in serum.

In this article the correlations between the morphological evaluation of the nerve fiber layer (NFL) thickness (by OCT) and retinal functional assessment (by Pattern ERG recordings) performed in patients affected by ocular hypertension (OHT), glaucoma (OAG), demyelinating optic neuritis (MSON), and Alzheimer's disease (AD) are reported.
