Inflammatory proteins associated with Alzheimer's disease reduced by a GLP1 receptor agonist: a post hoc analysis of the EXSCEL randomized placebo controlled trial
Ivan Koychev, Graham Reid, Maggie Nguyen, Robert J Mentz, Dan Joyce, Svati H Shah, Rury R Holman. Alzheimer's research & therapy, 2024-10-02
Topic: Inflammation, microglia and astrocytes
EQW affected FCN2 (Cohen's d -0.019), PAI-1 (Cohen's d -0.033), sVCAM-1 (Cohen's d 0.035) and a cytokine-cytokine cluster (Cohen's d 0.037) significantly compared with placebo. These effects were sustained in individuals over the age of 65 but not in those under 65. EQW treatment was associated with significant change in inflammatory proteins associated with AD. TRIAL REGISTRATION: EXSCEL is registered on ClinicalTrials.gov: NCT01144338 on 10th of June 2010.

How this study scored 79/100
Published in a peer-reviewed journal, and it is a randomised controlled trial. Scored zero for effect reported because the record does not state it. We have no data on journal's citation record, times cited, citations per year, impact for its field and year, cited by studies here, still being cited, senior author's track record, institution's track record, multi-centre collaboration and free to read, so those were left out: it earned 44 of the 56 points we could judge it on, which is 79 out of 100.
