Developing educational materials to aid in Alzheimer's blood biomarker disclosure
Raymond R Romano, Dominic Roby, Sydney Wilhoite, Marina Velez, Angela L Jefferson, Corey J Bolton. Alzheimer's & dementia (New York, N. Y.), 2025-11-17
Topic: Plasma and spinal-fluid biomarkers
Participants rated the materials highly regarding value and comprehension. Thematic analysis revealed confusion about dementia progression and terminology. Participants preferred varied communication modes. Participants found utility in these materials but sought additional information on risk reduction. These findings highlight the utility of educational materials to aid in the disclosure of AD dementia risk based on plasma p-tau to individuals with MCI and their loved ones. HIGHLIGHTS: Individuals with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) find value in receiving blood biomarker results.Additional risk reduction information is helpful when communicating dementia risk.Individuals prefer medical information communicated visually.

How this study scored 46/100
Published in a leading specialty journal. Scored zero for study design, sample size, effect reported, studied in people and randomised / blinded because the record does not state it. We have no data on journal's citation record, times cited, citations per year, impact for its field and year, cited by studies here, still being cited, senior author's track record, institution's track record, multi-centre collaboration and free to read, so those were left out: it earned 26 of the 56 points we could judge it on, which is 46 out of 100.
