Systematic reviews and meta-analyses in the research library
A systematic review or meta-analysis gathers every study that asked the same question and weighs them together, so it can show whether a finding holds up across the field rather than in one trial.
- 1,233studies, of 27,380 in the library
- 1,194peer-reviewed
- 1988–2026years published
- 67median usefulness score out of 100
These counts and lists are worked out from the library itself each time the page loads. A score rates how much weight a study can bear — its design, journal, evidence and recency — not whether its result is good news. The study type is the one each record states; a record with no stated design is not counted here.

Type 2 Diabetes as a Risk Factor for Dementia in Women Compared With Men: A Pooled Analysis of 2.3 Million People Comprising More Than 100,000 Cases of Dementia
Pooling data from 14 studies of more than 2.3 million people, this analysis found type 2 diabetes was associated with about a 60% higher risk of dementia, and the increase was similar in women (RR 1.62) and men (RR 1.58). For vascular dementia, the link was stronger in women: women with diabetes had a 19% greater risk than men (RRR 1.19, 95% CI 1.08–1.30). The cohorts were observational, so this shows an association, not that diabetes causes dementia or that treating it would prevent dementia.

Association of Blood Pressure Lowering With Incident Dementia or Cognitive Impairment: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis
This meta-analysis of 14 randomized clinical trials with 96,158 participants found that blood pressure lowering with antihypertensive agents was significantly associated with a reduced risk of dementia or cognitive impairment. It supports treating high blood pressure as a way to lower dementia risk, though it does not show a treatment or cure for people who already have dementia.
