✓ Peer-reviewed alzhub usefulness score 44 out of 100. Cognitive tests and assessment

Topic: Risk, prevention and care in population studies

The Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) is a brief cognitive screening instrument developed by Nasreddine et al. to detect mild cognitive impairment, a high-risk condition for Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. In this study we report normative data on the MoCA-Italian version, collected on a sample of 225 Italian healthy subjects ranged in age between 60 and 80 years, and in formal education from 5 to 23 years. The global normal cognition was established in accordance with the Mini-Mental State Examination score and with the Prose Memory Test score (Spinnler and Tognoni, Ital J Neurol Sci 6:25-27, 1987).

Key findings

Why it matters

This study collected normative data on the Italian version of the Montreal Cognitive Assessment in 225 healthy Italian subjects aged 60 to 80. It provides reference values for a cognitive screening instrument and does not treat, cure or prevent Alzheimer's disease.

Published in a peer-reviewed journal. Scored zero for study design, sample size, effect reported, studied in people and randomised / blinded because the record does not state it. We have no data on senior author's track record, so that was left out: it earned 42 of the 96 points we could judge it on, which is 44 out of 100.
