Topic: Amyloid, tau and blood-test diagnosis

Key findings

Why it matters

This literature review describes how epigenetic mechanisms such as DNA methylation and microRNAs may affect genes related to amyloid plaques, neurofibrillary tangles, and APOE in Alzheimer disease. The authors state that the study of epigenetics in Alzheimer disease is still incipient and more research is needed, so no treatment, cure, or prevention is established.

Published in a peer-reviewed journal. Scored zero for study design, sample size, effect reported, studied in people and randomised / blinded because the record does not state it. We have no data on senior author's track record, so that was left out: it earned 27 of the 96 points we could judge it on, which is 28 out of 100.
