✓ Peer-reviewed alzhub usefulness score 54 out of 100. Health systems and care delivery

Topic: Risk, prevention and care in population studies

Overall, 92.7% of the original cohort members participated in at least one follow-up round and 87.2% participated in at least two (balanced by deworming treatment status). Relative to nationwide samples, KLPS features similar household sizes, similar rates of urban residence (38% in KLPS versus 42% nationally), somewhat lower levels of education (75% completed primary school in KLPS versus 78% nationally, and a larger gap for secondary schooling), and lower paid employment (41% KLPS versus 49% nationally). The second-generation cohort has fewer household members on average (5.45 members) compared with the nationwide sample (6.45 members), which could in part reflect slightly different definitions for a household. Overall, the KLPS sample appears broadly comparable to national Kenyan samples of similarly-aged individuals along multiple important socio-economic and demographic dimensions.

Key findings

Why it matters

This cohort profile describes participation rates and demographic characteristics of the Kenya Life Panel Survey compared with national Kenyan samples. It does not report any treatment, cure, or prevention for Alzheimer's disease.

Published in a peer-reviewed journal, and it is a longitudinal study following the same people over time. Scored zero for randomised / blinded because the record does not state it. We have no data on senior author's track record, so that was left out: it earned 52 of the 96 points we could judge it on, which is 54 out of 100.
