Topic: Amyloid, tau and blood-test diagnosis

Key findings

Why it matters

This review examines how clinical genetics, including variants in APOE, APP, PSEN1, and PSEN2 and biomarkers in plasma and cerebrospinal fluid, can improve diagnosis and prognosis of Alzheimer's disease. It highlights substantial inequalities between developed and developing countries, noting that in Ecuador diagnosis still relies largely on neuropsychological tests and conventional imaging, delaying early detection.

Published in a peer-reviewed journal. Scored zero for study design, sample size, effect reported, studied in people and randomised / blinded because the record does not state it. We have no data on senior author's track record and institution's track record, so those were left out: it earned 25 of the 93 points we could judge it on, which is 27 out of 100.
