Performance of plasma Aβ42/40, measured using a fully automated immunoassay, across a broad patient population in identifying amyloid status
Bun S, Ito D, Tezuka T, Kubota M, Ueda R, Takahata K, Moriguchi S, Kurose S et al.. Alzheimer's research & therapy, 2023-09-04
Topic: Amyloid, tau and blood-test diagnosis
Unlike previous research that used traditional immunoassay, recent studies that measured plasma Aβ42/40 using fully automated platforms reported promising results. Results Using the best cut-off derived from the Youden Index, plasma Aβ42/40 yielded an area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) of 0.949 in distinguishing visually assessed 18 F-Florbetaben amyloid PET positivity. The plasma Aβ42/40 had a significantly superior AUC than p-tau181, GFAP, and NfL in the 167 participants with measurements for all four biomarkers.

How this study scored 59/100
Published in a peer-reviewed journal. Scored zero for study design and randomised / blinded because the record does not state it. We have no data on journal's citation record, times cited, citations per year, impact for its field and year, cited by studies here, still being cited, senior author's track record, institution's track record and multi-centre collaboration, so those were left out: it earned 34 of the 58 points we could judge it on, which is 59 out of 100.
