Topic: Amyloid, tau and blood-test diagnosis
Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia, characterized by a progressive decline in cognitive function, particularly memory and impacting daily life. It is a neurodegenerative disorder involving the abnormal build-up of proteins in the brain forming plaques. These protein aggregates and disrupt normal brain cell function leading to neuron damage. It is an undertreated and under-recognized disease that is becoming a major public health problem. The last decade has witnessed a steadily increasing effort directed at discovering the aetiology of the disease and developing pharmacological treatment. This disease starts after the age of 55-60 but in down syndrome patients it starts earlier at the age of 40-50. Some of the chemicals used as inducing agents are scopolamine, colchicine, Okadaic acid, Trimethyl tin and some of the metal ions are used in animal models. Alzheimer’s disease is similar to that of coronary heart disease or ischemic. Background: - It was first described in 1906 by Dr. Alois Alzheimer, after studying a patient named Auguste D, who exhibited symptoms like memory loss and language problem.
Key findings
- This disease starts after the age of 55-60 but in down syndrome patients it starts earlier at the age of 40-50.
- Some of the chemicals used as inducing agents are scopolamine, colchicine, Okadaic acid, Trimethyl tin and some of the metal ions are used in animal models.
- Alzheimer’s disease is similar to that of coronary heart disease or ischemic.
- Background: - It was first described in 1906 by Dr.
- Alois Alzheimer, after studying a patient named Auguste D, who exhibited symptoms like memory loss and language problem.
Why it matters
This is a general review of Alzheimer's disease diagnosis and background, noting that the disease starts earlier in people with Down syndrome. It reports no new findings on treating, curing or preventing Alzheimer's disease.

How this study scored 28/100
Published in a peer-reviewed journal. Scored zero for study design, sample size, effect reported, studied in people and randomised / blinded because the record does not state it. We have no data on journal's citation record, senior author's track record and institution's track record, so those were left out: it earned 25 of the 89 points we could judge it on, which is 28 out of 100.
