APOE ε4 and resting-state functional connectivity in racially/ethnically diverse older adults
Indira C Turney, Anthony G Chesebro, Miguel Arce Rentería, Patrick J Lao, Juliet M Beato, Nicole Schupf, Richard Mayeux, Jennifer J Manly et al.. Alzheimer's & dementia (Amsterdam, Netherlands), 2020-09-22
Topic: Brain imaging, connectivity and assessment
Compared to APOE ε4 non-carriers, APOE ε4 carriers had lower rsFC in temporal DMN, but only in non-Hispanic Whites. Non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic APOE ε4 carriers had slightly higher or similar rsFC compared with non-Hispanic White APOE ε4 non-carriers. These findings suggest that APOE ε4 modulates DMN rsFC differently in non-Hispanic Whites compared with non-Hispanic Blacks and Hispanics.

How this study scored 52/100
Published in a leading specialty journal. Scored zero for study design, effect reported and randomised / blinded because the record does not state it. We have no data on journal's citation record, times cited, citations per year, impact for its field and year, cited by studies here, still being cited, senior author's track record, institution's track record, multi-centre collaboration and free to read, so those were left out: it earned 29 of the 56 points we could judge it on, which is 52 out of 100.
