Restriction in activity associated with fear of falling among community-based seniors using home care services
Fletcher PC, Hirdes JP.. Age and ageing, 2004-05-01
Topic: Health services, long-term care and technology
Objective The aim of this cross-sectional study was to examine the factors associated with restriction of activity resulting from fear of falling among 2,300 seniors receiving home care services. Results Of the 2,304 seniors within the study, 41.2% of participants expressed they restricted their activity for fear of falling. In the final logistic regression model, being female, having various impairments/limitations, lack of support and being a multiple faller significantly increased risk of fear of falling, whereas individuals that used antipsychotics and individuals that had Alzheimer's disease were less likely to report restricting their activity. Conclusions The results from this study provide information about a group void in the literature pertaining to activity restriction from fear of falling - community-based seniors receiving home care services.

How this study scored 57/100
Published in a peer-reviewed journal, and it is a snapshot of people at one point in time. Scored zero for randomised / blinded because the record does not state it. We have no data on journal's citation record, times cited, citations per year, impact for its field and year, cited by studies here, still being cited, senior author's track record, institution's track record and multi-centre collaboration, so those were left out: it earned 33 of the 58 points we could judge it on, which is 57 out of 100.
