Heart failure and cognitive dysfunction
Ampadu J, Morley JE.. International journal of cardiology, 2014-10-22
Topic: Risk, prevention and care in population studies
It has been estimated that 5.1million Americans suffer from heart failure. Cognitive impairment has been described as a consequence of heart failure in numerous studies spanning the last three decades. This systematic review helps differentiate "cognitive impairment" into mild cognitive impairment, dementia, and delirium. We evaluate the prevalence, pathophysiology, treatment modalities, and possible outcomes previously described with these associations in heart failure. This review also assesses the utility of the different screening modalities and their efficacy as they pertain to recognizing cognitive impairment.

How this study scored 64/100
Published in a peer-reviewed journal, and it is a systematic review of all the studies on the question. Scored zero for sample size, effect reported and studied in people because the record does not state it. We have no data on journal's citation record, times cited, citations per year, impact for its field and year, cited by studies here, still being cited, senior author's track record, institution's track record and multi-centre collaboration, so those were left out: it earned 37 of the 58 points we could judge it on, which is 64 out of 100.
