✓ Peer-reviewed alzhub usefulness score 64 out of 100. Risk genes beyond APOE

Topic: Amyloid, tau and blood-test diagnosis

The authors conducted a large genome-wide association study using 2,032 individuals from France with Alzheimer's disease and 5,328 controls. Markers outside APOE showing suggestive evidence of association were further examined in collections from Belgium, Finland, Italy, and Spain totaling 3,978 cases and 3,297 controls. The study identified and replicated evidence of association for variants at two loci, CLU on chromosome 8 and CR1 on chromosome 1, with Alzheimer's disease.

Key findings

Why it matters

A genome-wide association study reporting variants at CLU and CR1 associated with Alzheimer's disease. The finding marks genes for further study and is not itself a treatment or a means of prevention.
