Functional and structural connectivity in the Papez circuit in different stages of Alzheimer's disease
Emre Hari, Gozde Kizilates-Evin, Elif Kurt, Ali Bayram, Cigdem Ulasoglu-Yildiz, Hakan Gurvit, Tamer Demiralp. Clinical neurophysiology : official journal of the International Federation of Clinical Neurophysiology, 2023-06-30
Topic: Brain imaging, connectivity and assessment
The FC between the retrosplenial (RSC) and parahippocampal cortices (PHC) was the earliest affected FC, while a manifest SC change in the ventral cingulum and fornix was observed in the later ADD stage. The RSC-PHC FC and the ventral cingulum FA efficiently predicted the memory performance of the non-demented participants. Our findings revealed the importance of the Papez circuit as target regions along the AD. The ventral cingulum connecting the RSC and PHC, a critical overlap area between the Papez circuit and the default mode network, seems to be a target region associated with the earliest objective memory findings in AD.

How this study scored 48/100
Published in a peer-reviewed journal. Scored zero for study design, effect reported and randomised / blinded because the record does not state it. We have no data on journal's citation record, times cited, citations per year, impact for its field and year, cited by studies here, still being cited, senior author's track record, institution's track record, multi-centre collaboration and free to read, so those were left out: it earned 27 of the 56 points we could judge it on, which is 48 out of 100.
