Lithium Trial in Alzheimer's Disease
Harald Juergen Hampel, Michael Ewers, Katharina Bürger, Peter Annas, Anette Mörtberg, Anna Bogstedt, Lutz Frölich, Johannes Schröder et al.. The Journal of Clinical Psychiatry, 2009-06-15
Topic: Disease mechanisms in lab and animal studies
No treatment effect on GSK-3 activity or CSF-based biomarker concentrations (P >. 05) was observed. Lithium treatment did not lead to change in global cognitive performance as measured by the ADAS-Cog subscale (P = .11) or in depressive symptoms. The current results do not support the notion that lithium treatment may lead to reduced hyperphosphorylation of tau protein after a short 10-week treatment in the Alzheimer's disease target population. How this study scored 41/100
Published in a peer-reviewed journal. Scored zero for study design, effect reported and randomised / blinded because the record does not state it. We have no data on journal's citation record, times cited, citations per year, impact for its field and year, cited by studies here, still being cited, senior author's track record, institution's track record and multi-centre collaboration, so those were left out: it earned 24 of the 58 points we could judge it on, which is 41 out of 100.
