GLP-1 Receptor Agonists: Beyond Diabetes-What the Neurosurgeon Needs to Know
Hael Abdulrazeq, Mazen Taman, Rohaid Ali, Cody Doberstein, Patricia Sullivan, Prakash Sampath, Albert Telfeian, Ziya Gokaslan et al.. Neurosurgery practice, 2024-06-27
Topic: Drug trials: efficacy and safety
Recent guidance from the American Society of Anesthesiologists demonstrates the importance of tailored management of GLP-RA drugs for surgical patients. In addition, certain positive effects have been noted with relation to substance use disorders, neural protection and rehabilitation, and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer's disease. In this article, we review what the neurosurgeon needs to know about the perioperative management of GLP-1 RAs and discuss existing literature in clinical and preclinical studies for potential indications and benefits of these medications, which can influence the management of conditions treated by neurosurgeons.

How this study scored 43/100
Published in a peer-reviewed journal. Scored zero for study design, sample size, effect reported, studied in people and randomised / blinded because the record does not state it. We have no data on journal's citation record, times cited, citations per year, impact for its field and year, cited by studies here, still being cited, senior author's track record, institution's track record, multi-centre collaboration and free to read, so those were left out: it earned 24 of the 56 points we could judge it on, which is 43 out of 100.
