Drug repurposing using meta-analysis of gene expression in Alzheimer's disease
Ha Young Jang, Jung Mi Oh, In-Wha Kim. Frontiers in neuroscience, 2022-11-10
Topic: Drug trials: efficacy and safety
Reversal genes and the candidate compounds were identified by the leave-one-out cross-validation procedure. Additionally, the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values and the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability of candidate compounds were obtained from ChEMBL and PubChem, respectively. New therapeutic target genes and drug candidates against Alzheimer's disease were identified by means of drug repositioning.
Key findings
- Reversal genes and the candidate compounds were identified by the leave-one-out cross-validation procedure.
- Additionally, the half-maximal inhibitory concentration (IC50) values and the blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability of candidate compounds were obtained from ChEMBL and PubChem, respectively.
- New therapeutic target genes and drug candidates against Alzheimer's disease were identified by means of drug repositioning.

How this study scored 70/100
Published in a peer-reviewed journal, and it is a meta-analysis pooling many studies. Scored zero for sample size, effect reported and studied in people because the record does not state it. We have no data on journal's citation record, times cited, citations per year, impact for its field and year, cited by studies here, still being cited, senior author's track record, institution's track record, multi-centre collaboration and free to read, so those were left out: it earned 39 of the 56 points we could judge it on, which is 70 out of 100.
